Step by step installation of Kali Linux in Vartual Box
In this tutorial, we will learn how to install Kali Linux in VirtualBox on Windows operating system. VirtualBox is a virtualization software that allows us to run multiple operating systems inside our existing installed OS. It was developed by Oracle and can be used for both personal and commercial use. With the help of VirtualBox we can install different operating systems like Linux, Windows, Mac OS etc. on one single computer or server.
Steps to install Kali Linux in VirtualBox:
- Download and install VirtualBox on your system.
- Once VirtualBox is installed, download the Kali Linux image file from the official website of Kali Linux.
- After downloading the image file, launch VirtualBox and click on “New” icon to start the setup process.
- In the first step, enter a name for the virtual machine and select the type as “Linux” and version as “Kali Linux” from the drop-down menu.
- Now select the amount of RAM memory you want to allocate to your virtual machine. We recommend allocating at least 1GB of RAM for smooth operation. You can also allocate more RAM according to your system’s hardware specifications.
- In the next step, select “Create a virtual hard drive now” option and click on the “Create” button.
- Now select the “VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)” as the file type and “Dynamically allocated” as the storage type.
- Select the size of the disk and click on the “Create” button.
- Once the disk is created, right-click on the newly created virtual machine and select “Settings” from the drop-down menu.
- In the settings window, go to the “Storage” tab and click on the “Empty” icon under the IDE controller.
- In the “Attributes” section, click on the CD/DVD icon and select “Choose a virtual CD/DVD disk file” option.
- Navigate to the location where the Kali Linux image file is stored and select it. Now click on the “OK” button to save the settings.
- Now start the virtual machine by clicking on the “Start” button.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.
That’s it, you have successfully installed Kali Linux in VirtualBox on your system. Now you can use this virtual machine for various hacking and penetration testing activities.
